Stantec seeks an Environmental Scientist to join our growing Environmental Services team in Buffalo, NY. Successful environmental scientists at Stantec have opportunities for professional development, are often tasked with learning new skills, and work on a variety of interesting and challenging projects. Your Key Responsibilities:

• Wetland Delineations and Field Surveys: Participating in both large- and small-scale wetland delineations, natural community mapping, rare, threatened, and endangered species surveys, function and value assessments, environmental permitting, post construction monitoring, and wetland mitigation/restoration
• Environmental Inspections: Conducting construction and post construction environmental inspection and monitoring to verify compliance with Stormwater and other environmental permit conditions
• Environmental Permitting/SEQR: Support preparation and development of NYSDEC/USACE Joint Permit Applications, including SEQR Compliance (Environmental Assessment Forms and Environmental Impact Statements); familiarity with NYSPSC Article VII, Part 102 and Article 10 preferred but not required
• Summarizing, organizing, presenting and/or analyzing environmental field data
• Preparation of a wide range of reports and involving environmental regulatory compliance and environmental impact analysis
• Regularly travel throughout NY, Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states. Travel to other areas may also be required
• Work with multidisciplinary staff and be responsible for the safety and well-being of other field staff and perform tasks required for fieldwork such as workflow planning, scheduling, data collection and dissemination, reporting, and communication with project management, clients and regulators
• Support environmental investigation, monitoring and remediation work at commercial and industrial facilities located in urban, rural, or undeveloped locations. Field work may include, but is not limited to, collecting samples of soil, sediment, water, and air; overseeing drilling of soil borings and installation of monitoring wells; performing hydraulic conductivity tests; excavation monitoring; use of instrumentation; overseeing subcontractors; and coordinating complex field tasks with multiple staff and subcontractors

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

• The selected candidate is expected to have proven communication and leadership skills and an excellent "can do" attitude
• Candidates must have organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills
• Candidates must be willing and able to spend long days on foot over uneven, remote terrain in inclement weather
• Selected candidates are expected to maintain a positive attitude, particularly in challenging environments and harsh weather conditions
• Mechanical skills, experience driving/navigating in remote locations, and previous experience with GPS and mobile technologies are desired
• Prior experience and proficiency with GIS is desired
• Must have a high attention to detail
• Skill in Microsoft Office software suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
• Skill in NYS SWPPP Permit compliance, including knowledge with MS4 is desired
• Effective technical writing and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Education and Experience:

• BS or MS in an environmental discipline and knowledge of soils, vegetation, ecology and hydrology
• 3 to 5 years of environmental and/or field experience
• Experience delineating wetlands according to the Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual and the Regional Supplement to the Corps of Engineers and EPA Wetland Delineation Manual and the Regional Supplements in New York State is desired

Other Considerations:

• Good driving record and valid driver's license are required
• Typical office environment tasks will also be part of the work, working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time
• Field work will include exposure to the elements including inclement weather
• Field workdays may be 12+ hours long
• Ability to lift and move items and equipment throughout the workday weighing up to 50 pounds
• Ability to stand for long periods of time and traverse uneven surfaces in rough terrain
• Ability to bend, stoop, and kneel throughout the workday

Pay Range: Locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, ME, NY, VA Areas-$58,500.00 - $84,800.00 Annually Locations in NYC & CA (Bay Area) & NJ (RP)-$73,700.00 - $106,800.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
